On the mornings that I’m too rushed to make breakfast at home, I like to stop at Erewhon Market, my local organic grocery store, for a delicious and nutritious on-the-go meal. One of my favorite go-to’s is their Paleo Toast. It’s a slice of paleo bread, which is crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, topped with almond butter, raw honey, bananas, and bee pollen! Bee pollen is one of my favorite super foods, and, in my eyes, is extremely underrated in the food world!
Bee pollen is more rich in proteins than any animal source. It also contains more amino acids than chicken, beef, or eggs of equal weight. What’s great about the protein from bees, is that it is in the form of free amino acids that are ready to be used immediately by the body! Here are my top 5 favorite health benefits of bee pollen:
- Skin: The amino acids and vitamins within the raw pollen help to protect the skin and aid in the regeneration of cells, leading to younger, tighter, and smoother looking skin!
- Energy: The combination of carbohydrates, amino acids and B vitamins help to enhance stamina and fight off fatigue, which help you to keep going all day long!
- Digestion: Bee pollen ALSO contains enzymes that aid in improving your digestion. These enzymes assist your body in successfully absorbing all of the nutrients you need from the food that you eat.
- Immune system: Pollen is great at protecting your body’s intestinal flora, and, therefore, maintains a healthy gut and supports your immune system.
- Vitality: Pollen is also thought to have anti-cancer qualities. The rich antioxidants in pollen help to protect the cells from the damaging oxidation of free radicals. Eat pollen to help fight against harmful carcinogens!
