This weekend I took a relaxing trip to Zuma Beach in Malibu. It’s that little bit further than Topanga or Point Dume, but let me assure you, it was worth it. Ample street parking (free=major plus), far less crowded, and an opportunity to get some exercise in with the twelve (yes I counted) sets of stairs to get down to the sand (although some may see this is a downside). The beach is also dog-friendly, which is always nice. Instead of bringing a go-to favorite beach snack of Angeleno’s, a Bay Cities Godfather sub (must try when in LA), I decided to bring a healthier alternative, which was just as convenient. I headed to Erewhon, my local organic grocer, and picked up a raw pizza, which was flavor-packed with crisp cherry tomatoes, an assortment of olives, garlic, and a vegan pesto and mozzarella spread atop a gluten-free crust alternative. Beyond delicious. For my “main course”, I also picked up a pre-made Macrobiotic bowl with brown rice, black beans, steamed veggies, and a vegan lemon-tumeric sauce!
After indulging in my healthy beach snacks, I took a swim to cool off, then proceeded to pass out due to an induced food-coma, and napped for an hour. Woke up with some pretty explicit tan lines, and knew it was time to cool off again and head back home before the heavy traffic began.
All around, it was a successful beach day, and I didn’t leave feeling guilty from my snack selections, as I have in the past. I hope this post has inspired you to pick up a healthier snack when headed to your next beach day!
